Job Description
Under the direction of the school principal, the instrumental music teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students in grades 4‑12 for the 2026‑2027 school year. The teacher creates an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, supervises students in various school settings, communicates with students, parents, staff, and community, and maintains current instructional practices and records.
Education, Certification and Experience- Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate (Standard or Advanced) or a Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in COMAR.

- Ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community.
- Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.
- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed.
- Creates a classroom environment that supports student voice, agency, and a safe learning atmosphere.
- Develops classroom routines and rituals to foster a culture of learning and employs evidence‑based strategies to manage conflict and redirect negative behavior.
- Maintains order and discipline while ensuring safety for students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Plans and prepares lessons aligned with Calvert County curricula, establishing clear learning goals, assignments, and instructional materials.
- Incorporates research‑based strategies, evidence‑based practices, and instructional technology into the learning process.
- Customizes instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students, regardless of background, ability, or socioeconomic status.
- Monitors and evaluates student progress using formative and summative assessment techniques, preparing and correcting evaluations, and recording results.
- Continually updates skill and knowledge base in current instructional trends, research, technology, cultural responsiveness, problem solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
- Plans purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers.
- Maintains accurate records and follows required procedures.
- Communicates and interacts positively with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Consults with parents and students regarding academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral progress; arranges and participates in conferences as needed.
- Attends and actively participates in faculty meetings, professional learning sessions, and special committees.
- Participates in special events such as open house and registration nights.
- Works flexible hours as necessary, manages stress, meets deadlines, and maintains regular, on‑time attendance.
May be assigned related work by the school principal or designee. Position includes an Extra Duty Extra Pay contract and stipend.
Physical DemandsPosition requires significant periods of standing and walking, performed in a typical school environment.
Unusual DemandsMay be subject to a flexible work schedule.
Terms of EmploymentTen (10) month position; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit. Extra Duty Extra Pay stipend(s) awarded for designated assignments.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated per the policy on evaluation established by Calvert County Public Schools.
