Position Information
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant/Associate Professor - Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all student services and academic support initiatives within the School of Veterinary Medicine. The ADSA develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive student success programs designed to support academic achievement, NAVLE readiness, professional identity formation, wellness, and career preparation throughout the DVM curriculum.
This position fosters a student-centered learning environment that promotes academic success, professional development, well-being, inclusion, and career readiness.
Working collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs, faculty, and other support units in the SVM and University, the ADSA ensures the development of individualized student success plans, early intervention strategies, and evidence-based programming that promotes student retention and successful program completion. The ADSA also oversees the Admissions process for the SVM. The ADSA serves on the Dean's Executive Leadership Team and ensures compliance with AVMA COE accreditation standards.
Salary Information
Salary range: $135,000 - $165,000 annually, commensurate with academic rank and experience.

Essential Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all Student
Affairs functions within the School of Veterinary Medicine.
* Provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the
Admissions process within the School of Veterinary Medicine.
* Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures related to
student progression, professionalism, conduct, and well-being.
* Oversee academic advising systems, student mentoring programs, and
early intervention strategies for students in academic difficulty.
* Chair or oversee the Student Progress and Promotions Committee in
collaboration with academic leadership.
* Lead initiatives supporting student wellness, resilience, and mental health
in partnership with university services.
* Oversee career development programming, including employer
engagement, internship and residency advising, and employment outcomes
tracking.
* Promote a positive and professional learning environment and address
student conduct issues in accordance with university policies.
* Collaborate with admissions leadership on recruitment, orientation, and
student onboarding processes.
* Provide oversight and guidance to student organizations and leadership
development initiatives.
* Lead accreditation reporting related to student services and outcomes,
ensuring compliance with AVMA COE standards.
* Supervise Student Affairs staff and manage the Student Affairs operating
budget.
* Participate in institutional committees and represent the School at
professional meetings as appropriate.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
* Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent professional degree.
* Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full
Professor.
* Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in veterinary
medicine, veterinary education, or higher education administration.
* Demonstrated experience advising professional or pre-professional
students.
* Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience.
* Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
