Location: Clarksburg
Overview
Long Term Substitute Teacher – Special Education / CAPP Program, Snowden Farm Elementary School, Full Time (26000S9). This position provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities, working collaboratively with general education teachers. The role will run from mid‑May through the end of the year.
Responsibilities- Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
- Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Special Requirements- Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.
- Complete specific courses required for special education schools or discrete special education service models (e.g., behavioral management and nonviolent crisis intervention).
- Support behavioral interventions as required.
- Knowledge of the MCPS curriculum for the grade/content range of the position and the MCPS special education program.
- Thorough knowledge of IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best instructional practices, research‑based reading instruction, multicultural education, and assessments.
- Knowledge of methods of teaching elementary math if applicable.
- Knowledge of the Every Student Succeeds Act, Individuals with Disabilities Act, and state and federal policies related to special education.
- Ability to provide instructional support, work well with students, teachers, and parents/guardians of students.
- Ability to adapt instructional programs and materials appropriately.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge and application of the six performance standards of the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education.
- Fluency in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
- Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience at a level appropriate to the assignment (elementary or secondary).
- Other combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered.
- Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education.
- Additional certification in a content area is desirable.
Wage range: $20.95 to $33.64 per hour, depending on experience, project nature, and negotiated agreements. Temporary Part Time (TPT) position; benefits are not included.
