The Pre‑K Instructional Assistant 2 provides instructional, behavioral, and social‑emotional support to ensure a well‑organized classroom where students can fully benefit from the curriculum. The assistant works with all pre‑kindergarten students, supporting the general education program and helping maintain a safe, clean, and engaging learning environment.
Essential Duties- Assist the teacher in implementing curriculum and classroom routines.
- Support students during independent study, enrichment, and resource activities.
- Provide instructional, behavioral, and social‑emotional support to all students.
- Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Individualized Education Programs (IEP) as directed.
- Deliver academic interventions and proactive behavioral supports.
- Respond to crisis situations, including use of non‑violent CPI when necessary.
- Help students with personal hygiene and daily living activities.
- Operate instructional technology, laboratory equipment, and computer programs.
- Assist the teacher with classroom maintenance and safety.
- Participate in professional learning opportunities.
- Provide class coverage when the teacher is absent or during rest time.
- Assist with recess duty daily.
- Maintain timely attendance and positive interaction with staff, students, and parents.
- Perform work assigned by the principal or designee.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate Arts degree or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is preferred.
- Experience working with early‑childhood children, including those with disabilities and behavior management, is preferred.
- Must obtain CDA by the fall of SY 2027‑2028 unless an AA degree is earned.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency with office equipment and instructional technology.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills with students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
- Problem‑solving and decision‑making in stressful situations.
- Organizational capability and task prioritization.
Requires significant standing and walking in a typical school environment.
EvaluationPerformance is evaluated per Calvert County Public Schools policy.
