Middle School, Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
An ideal full‑time Middle School Mathematics teacher is dynamic, has the ability to teach all levels of middle school mathematics including Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, and is interested in developing strong problem‑solving and communication competencies in students. The teacher will work with our Middle School students in grades 5 through 8.
Compensation for this position will generally be offered in the range of $55,000 - $75,000. Individual offers will be specific, and based on education, experience, and benchmarking parameters.
Essential Functions- Inspire, engage, and encourage students in the study of Mathematics
- Serve as an advisor; contribute to the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of adolescents
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate math into other subject areas
- Work collaboratively with colleagues both inside and outside the Math department
- Respond to the needs of the School, including but not limited to, service learning, coaching, assigned duties, and other areas as determined by the Middle School Head
A bachelor's degree and (preferably) coursework in the teaching of Mathematics. Master’s Degree (preferred, but not required).
Additional Experience- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and create engaging interdisciplinary units, projects, and/or courses
- Demonstrated expertise regarding the subject matter
- Experience with Google (Docs/Sheets/Apps/Email)
- Experience with interdisciplinary teaching
- Experience working in a student‑centered learning environment, with practical experience with problem‑ and project‑based learning, as well as integrated learning
- Minimum of 2 years experience teaching, preferably in a Middle School
- Must have an understanding of Google Suite tools, major LMS platforms, and other emerging technologies
- A positive disposition and a strong desire to work as part of a high-functioning team
- A strong work ethic, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion at all times
- Ability to differentiate learning experiences to support students with learning challenges
- Ability to effectively collaborate with other constituents within the McDonogh community
- Ability to generate and facilitate civil discourse in the classroom
- Ability to work in a diverse environment and inclusive culture that values and respects difference across race, ethnicity, religion, and orientation or identity
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- An appreciation for and willingness to embrace the culture of an Independent School
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to comply with background check, including fingerprints, as required by the agency and/or state regulations.
- Must have organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must have proven problem‑solving skills, be self‑motivated, and adaptable
- Years of subject‑matter experience, specifically teaching Math
Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping.
