Job DescriptionThe Grow Your Own Teacher Apprenticeship Program provides aspiring educators with a paid, school-based pathway to becoming a certified teacher while earning a college degree. Apprentices are currently employed within Worcester County Public Schools and work alongside experienced mentor teachers in classroom settings, gaining hands‑on experience in instruction, student engagement, classroom management, and professional responsibilities. Through structured on‑the-job learning and training, apprentices progressively develop the knowledge and skills needed to support student success while meeting the requirements of the Maryland Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program.
In partnership with Notre Dame of Maryland University, apprentices complete online coursework leading to a bachelor's degree and Maryland teacher certification in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education. Apprentices are expected to successfully balance employment and academic responsibilities, participate in required professional learning opportunities, maintain satisfactory progress toward degree completion, and meet all program requirements established by the school system, university, and Maryland State Department of Education.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, degree program, and certification requirements, apprentices will be prepared to serve as licensed teachers in Maryland.
