POSITION SUMMARY: Passionate, educational leader with a strong commitment to student learning and enhanced student experience. The principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, ensuring high-quality teaching and the academic, social, and emotional well-being of every student. The principal leads a shared vision and equitable school culture; models professionalism and ethical leadership; and promotes rigorous curriculum, instruction, assessment, and the effective use of technology.
They uphold fair student policies, ensure implementation of MTSS, and foster inclusive and supportive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community. The principal recruits, develops, supervises, and retains effective staff; provides differentiated professional learning and actionable feedback; and builds leadership capacity across the school. They manage school operations, resources, data systems, and compliance with all regulations, while collaborating with central office on key student and school matters.
Through continuous learning and reflective practice, the principal drives ongoing school improvement and advances the success of every student.

Superintendent’s Leadership Team
At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
- MSDE Administrator II or MSDE Principal endorsement (or be eligible for this endorsement by July 1, 2026).
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience as a teacher required, middle school experience preferred.
- Three (3) years of successful administrative or supervisory experience required, middle school level preferred.
- Experience with multiple schools and/or levels preferred.

- Demonstrated leadership experience outside of the classroom.
- Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
- Demonstrated ability to manage effective teams and work collaboratively in groups.
- Understanding of and ability to navigate the school and district as a system’s leader.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize and promote equitable practices in all facets of education.
- Understanding of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and student services.
- Understands how trauma, equity, inclusive practices and restorative practices impacts the student and teacher experience.
- Understanding of how to implement various supports to manage student behavior such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Ukeru, and Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI).
- Understanding of the school improvement process in order to determine root causes, develop annual goals, classroom strategies, and measurements of success.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability to analyze and use data, including the Student Assessment System, to make instructional and program decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, make informed decisions and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Understanding of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, Maryland College and Career Ready Standards, Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, Multi-Tiered System of Support, and strong tier 1 universal instruction and equitable and inclusive learning environments that support student success.
- Knowledge of sound instructional practice, including purposeful planning that will increase student achievement when measured in a variety of ways.
- Understanding of instructional technology, including digital curriculum and tools, and its use in the classroom.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change with staff, students, parents and community.
- Competence in staff selection, training, supervision, and evaluation.
