Position: SCHOOL COUNSELOR – SCHOOL YEAR 2026-2027
Location: Prince FrederickSchool Counselor – School Year
Under the direction of the school principal and supervisor of student services, the school counselor is responsible for providing a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate program to students in the area of academic achievement, career, and educational decision making, and personal/social development. The school counselor acts as a consultant in this regard to staff, parents, and the community.

Experience:
At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
A Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional Certificate in the appropriate field of education.Experience as a teacher and/or counselorKnowledge, Abilities, and
Skills:
At the time of application, the candidate must have:
- Knowledge of American School Counselor Association National model and School Counselor competencies
- Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of
- Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
- Knowledge of Calvert County Public Schools policies and
- Knowledge of Calvert County Public Schools curriculum and instructional
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral
- Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community

Essential Job Functions,
Responsibilities and Duties:Implements a school counseling program that is data-driven, planned, sequential, andPlans and delivers structured lessons, presentations, and services designed to meet the identified guidance and counseling competencies in areas of academic achievement, career and educational development, and personal/social development through a variety of modalities, including individual advising, large group guidance, and small groupInitiates individual and group sessions to address students' personal, social, and academicAssists students in developing decision-making skills and provides related experiences to help them attain understanding of their abilities, interests, andUtilizes student and school data to monitor students' academicCollaborates with administrators, teachers, and parents to promote rigorous educational and career planning for all students that includes structured academic and career plans leading toward graduation andConsults with parents and staff to appraise individual and collective student needs and interests and discusses appropriate recommendations for student educational, personal, and socialPlans programs and services through which parents of all students will acquire an understanding of expectations, roles, and procedures for monitoring students' academic and career planning processes and progress during critical transitionAssists with the development of the school's masterAssists in the articulation and orientation ofReports and refers critical incidents that jeopardize the well-being of the student as obligated by law, Calvert County Public Schools' policies and procedures, and ethicalCollaborates in the development and implementation of programs targeting social and emotional skills that reduce negative behaviors and increase productive and positive behaviors between and amongThinks, concentrates, and interacts positively withMaintains regular, on-timeWorks flexible hours asWorks under stress and meets allAttends special events such as open house and registrationOther Duties:
