About The PositionThis entry‑level instructor position (Instructor I/II, grade G18/21) in the Training Academy of the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is responsible for delivering training programs, assisting in curriculum development, and performing related duties. Successful completion of a probationary period may lead to a non‑competitive promotion to level II.
About The AgencyThe mission of the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department is to serve communities with excellence by providing high‑quality fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and all‑hazards response services.
Responsibilities- Present or coordinate the presentation of various training modules such as supervisory development, staff skills training, software applications, and personal development programs.
- Collect and present available training programs, seminars, and computer‑based training products in support of development and purchasing efforts.
- Coordinate development of program materials, review training materials and courseware, and keep them up to date.
- Catalog courses and, where appropriate, coordinate their presentation.
- Assist with scheduling student training in consultation with departmental training coordinators.
- Assist with maintaining the training calendar and schedule for the training rooms.
- Assist with preparing the training environment and resources, including setting up computers and peripheral equipment.
- Facilitate small group sessions and team‑building exercises.
- Prepare marketing materials to advertise training opportunities.
- Analyze and report evaluation results of training programs.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of adult learning theory.
Bachelor’s degree in education, business, public administration, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Current Instructor certification granted by the Maryland Instructor Certification Review Board (MICRB).
- Completion of the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute (MFRI) Instructor 2 course within the last five years.
- Qualified to teach Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 and/or Emergency Medical Technician course content.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching at the local or community college level.
- Fire department and emergency medical service experience and certifications.
