POSITION SUMMARY: The head coach is responsible for instilling positive and ethical values in student athletes, overseeing the middle school’s Unified Bocce program, managing coaching staff, and ensuring social and emotional growth for participants.

REPORTS TO: School Principal/Activities Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS,

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Oversee the administration of the middle school’s Unified Bocce team
• Liaise regularly with the school’s athletic director and Special Olympics Maryland to ensure program standards are met
• Develop and implement practice plans with weekly bocce instruction for all participants
• Organize and lead all practice sessions with the recruitment and support of assistant coaches
• Impart the philosophy of a positive inclusive sports experience following the principles of Unified Sports®
• Plan and manage competition strategies for individuals and the team at Unified Bocce matches
• Handle all required paperwork and forms for the school system and Special Olympics Maryland
• Recruit and train volunteers when hosting a Unified Bocce match
• Attend mandatory Unified Sports® Bocce Coaches’ Training

OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal and/or Activities Director.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Significant periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS: None.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Extra Pay for Extra Duty. Longevity Pay Schedule.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EVALUATION: Performance evaluated per Calvert County Public Schools policy.

EFFECTIVE DATE: 2026‑2027 School Year, Spring Season – 3/1/2027 to 6/30/2027

• High school or trade school degree preferred
