Position SummaryThe Instructional Assistant 2 will provide instructional, behavioral, and social‑emotional support services to help achieve a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class and school environment. The role involves working with students with disabilities in special education and general education classrooms to support the implementation of IEPs.
Education, Certification and Experience- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Experience working with children with disabilities and managing externalizing behaviors is preferred.
- Earned and maintains non‑violent Calvert County Public School crisis management training (CPI), trauma‑informed care, COMAR law training, Ukeru crisis intervention training, restorative practices training, academic research‑based intervention training, and other trainings and certifications as required.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication.
- Ability to operate office machines and instructional technology.
- Ability to follow a flexible schedule and adapt to various environments.
- Ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
- Problem‑solving, decision‑making, and communication skills in stressful situations.
- Organizational and prioritization skills.
- Alternative qualifications acceptable as determined by Calvert County Public Schools.
- Provide instructional, behavioral, and social‑emotional support and services to students with disabilities.
- Assist individual children with special attention in academics, social, emotional, behavioral supports and activities of daily living.
- Assist with the provision of specially designed instruction and consistent implementation of student(s)’ Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist in the implementation of and collection of data as required by the student’s IEP and/or BIP.
- Deliver academic interventions and implement proactive behavioral supports/interventions.
- Intervene in crisis situations in the school environment as needed, which may include use of non‑violent CPI when a student exhibits aggressive behavior.
- Assist students with personal hygiene, including toileting/changing and activities of daily living.
- Work with groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
- Collaborate with a variety of educators and providers to implement students’ IEPs across settings.
- Perform clerical duties.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and other student supports planned by the teacher.
- Set up, and/or operate, instructional technology, laboratory equipment, and computer programs.
- Assist teacher with implementation of classroom duties, routines, and instruction.
- Participate in professional learning opportunities.
- Provide periodic class coverage in absence of a classroom teacher.
- Positively interact with others.
- Report to work promptly every day.

The position is performed in a typical school environment. Significant periods of standing and walking are required. Work may require physical confrontation with students who exhibit aggressive behaviors. Instructional Assistants assigned to serve students with physical disabilities may need to lift or assist student lifting during the instructional day.
