Our World Neighborhood Charter Schools (OWNCS) is seeking a Library Media Specialist
. This role serves as a vital connection between the school library program and our International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. The Library Media Specialist will support both OWN 2 (Howard Beach) and OWN 3 (Corona) Elementary School
, splitting time evenly between the two locations.

This collaborative, student-centered role works closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and the educational technology team to ensure the library remains an integral part of instruction. The ideal candidate fosters curiosity, promotes a love of reading, and supports inquiry-based learning aligned with the IB philosophy.

Requirements

Minimum of three (3) years working in a school setting, preferably in a library environment.

New York State certification as a School Librarian (required).

Training in International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP and/or MYP programs (preferred).

Experience using educational technology, including Smart Board and Google Workspace (G Suite).

Experience working with students in whole-group instructional settings.

Familiarity with library technology, shelving systems, and circulation software.

Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.

Summary

The Library Media Specialist supports faculty and students by maintaining and enhancing library, media, and technology resources. This role promotes literacy, information fluency, and ethical research practices while integrating technology into instructional programming across grade levels.

Key Responsibilities

Provide a student-centered learning environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving through literature and technology.

Maintain, select, acquire, evaluate, organize, and weed physical and digital library collections.

Collaborate with teachers to design innovative and engaging lessons, particularly those connected to International Baccalaureate (IB) units and projects.

Support literacy instruction and inquiry-based learning across elementary and middle school grades.

Promote the ethical use of information and support the OWNCS Academic Integrity Policy.

Stay current with educational technology, digital resources, and emerging trends in library media.

Maintain library circulation systems, shelving, and inventory.

Manage and monitor library budgets and resources.

Participate in professional development related to curriculum design, instructional technology, and media literacy.

Collaborate with network librarians to ensure continuity and alignment across the OWNCS network.

Support network-wide literacy initiatives that foster a love of reading and information-seeking.

Salary Range: $70,108 - $112,106 based on education, certification, years of relevant experience, and verified prior service, in alignment with our established salary scale. Employees with 30 credits beyond a master's degree are eligible for additional competitive compensation.

Schedule

10-month position with pay and benefits distributed evenly over 12 months to ensure consistent income and continuous coverage year-round.
