Grade 6 Step 1 with a starting hourly rate of $19.26. Potential future earnings on the ESP Salary Scale are $19.26 – $34.84. Additional steps are considered for PreK‑12 teaching experience under state‑issued professional licensure. The position qualifies for a program differential of 10% of the step one grade value in addition to the hourly rate.

Job Summary

To build student independence and provide additional adult support to a student as outlined in their individualized education program (IEP). The position is assigned to the Center for Education Services with student/school specific assignments determined by a BCBA Coordinator. The role may involve changing physical locations during the school year to meet individual student needs.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Highly Qualified status (A.A. Degree, 48 credit hours, or successful passing of the Paraprofessional Praxis Test).
  • Active certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and any other methodology/technique required for students.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with children or a combination of education and experience totaling two years.
  • Ability to lift 30‑50 pounds in specified situations.
  • Ability to document data as outlined in a student's Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and submit a daily report of student interventions.
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours to accommodate a change in school location assignment during the school year.
  • Competency with fundamental reading, writing, arithmetic, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work harmoniously with staff, students, and community.
  • Regular and predictable attendance (essential function).
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialized training in childcare, trauma‑informed care, and/or behavior management.
  • AA degree in child development or related field.
  • Experience with multiple computer software programs and platforms.
Responsibilities
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce/model academic, behavioral, and social skills introduced by the teacher(s).
  • Observe, recognize, and document behaviors to support data collection for individualized behavior plans.
  • Document and submit progress monitoring data and required reports.
  • Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing skills and instruction.
  • Operate and assist with classroom equipment.
  • Supervise and manage assigned students during instructional and non‑instructional activities.
  • Respond to behavior crises, including verbal de‑escalation and, if necessary, physical restraint or seclusion in emergency situations.
  • Assist with personal care and physical management of students as needed and appropriate.
  • Follow through on individual programs designed by the teacher.
  • Participate in team planning functions and attend supervision/training sessions as assigned.
  • Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Environmental Factors and Physical/Mental Requirements

The environment includes periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and other office equipment, moving throughout the building and grounds for extended periods, using sensory skills for communication and interaction, maintaining emotional control under stress, moving/raising/lowering/carrying objects up to 20 lbs on an irregular basis, bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, and climbing, and exposure to loud noises, interactions, and traffic flow in a highly populated office environment.
