Job SummaryUnder the direction of Student Services, in collaboration with the Coordinator of Alternative Education, this teacher plans and implements a program for students to improve performance, attendance, behavior, remediate academic deficiencies, and facilitate success in the regular school program. Utilizes proactive instructional and social‑emotional strategies to identify needed skills for a successful school environment.
Reports ToDirector of Student Services
, Coordinator of Alternative Education
- Professional teaching certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education; or
- Conditional degree certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education as outlined in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).
- At least three years of successful teaching experience (preferred).
- Ability to understand and communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain rapport with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic and racial groups.
- Satisfactory evaluations and demonstrated mastery of essential teaching skills.
- Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by Calvert County Public Schools.
- Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.
- Provides social skills and behavior modification activities.
- Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
- Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community.
- Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet student needs.
- Creates an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.
- Equips students with skills to successfully return to their original placement.
- Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
- Monitors proper use and care of equipment, materials and facilities to provide an effective individualized program.
- Collaborates with regular education staff regarding instructional accommodations and modifications.
Job Duties

Physical DemandsRequires significant periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment.
Terms of EmploymentTen (10) month position. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience per Calvert County Public Schools’ salary schedule for teachers. Salary range: $56,749 to $149,358 per year.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated per the policy established by Calvert County Public Schools.
Effective Date of Position2026‑2027 school year.
