Position Summary: Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, ensuring an environment conducive to their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. Supervises students in various school‑related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet all students’ needs, maintains records, follows required procedures, and ensures appropriate use and care of equipment.
Reports To: School Principal
Education, Certification and ExperienceAt the time of application, candidates must hold or be eligible for:
- A Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional Certificate in the appropriate field of education
- A Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR)
Required pre‑employment knowledge, abilities and skills include:

- Ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community
- Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial groups
- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the responsibilities listed
- Creates a classroom environment that supports student voice, agency, and intellectual and social safety.
- Develops classroom routines and rituals to support a culture of learning and uses evidence‑based strategies to manage conflict and redirect negative behavior.
- Maintains order and discipline conducive to effective learning and ensures safety for students, equipment, and facilities.
- Plans and prepares lessons individually and collaboratively aligned with Calvert County curricula, with clear learning goals, assignments, and instructional materials.
- Incorporates research‑based strategies, evidence‑based practices, and instructional technology within the learning process.
- Builds, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials aligned to county curricula that meet every student’s needs regardless of background, ability, or socioeconomic status.
- Monitors and evaluates student progress and outcomes using feedback and formative and summative assessment techniques.
- Prepares, administers, and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results.
- Improves knowledge base in current trends, research, and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, cultural responsiveness, problem‑solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
- Plans purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers.
- Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
- Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Confer with parents and students regarding academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral progress and arrange or participate in conferences.
- Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings and professional learning sessions.
- Supervise students in varied school‑related settings.
- Serve on special committees.
- Attend special events such as open house and registration nights.
- Think, concentrate, and interact positively with others.
- Work flexible hours as necessary.
- Work under stress and meet all deadlines.
- Maintain regular, on‑time attendance.
Perform related work as required or assigned by the school principal or designee.
Physical DemandsRequires significant periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment.

FLSA StatusExempt.
Terms of EmploymentTen (10) month position; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. Employees are encouraged to enroll in automatic payroll deposit.
