Who We Are

Monsignor Slade Catholic School is a vibrant and inclusive community centered on the mission of the Catholic Church and the formation of the whole child. Our student body of approximately 600 students reflects a diverse population of learners from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, and academic and social-emotional needs.

Who You Are

You are a compassionate, collaborative, and proactive school counselor who values and honors the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and needs of students and families. You bring cultural awareness, empathy, and an inclusive mindset to supporting all learners, while actively helping students grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, and academically.

You are well-versed in the ever-changing landscape impacting children and adolescents and stay informed on current, research-based practices related to student mental health, wellness, and social-emotional development. You value teamwork and are eager to collaborate with teachers on classroom guidance lessons and student supports. You work closely with administration on school-wide initiatives, preventative programming, and wellness opportunities that benefit the entire student body.

Essential

Functions

Student Counseling & Support (45%)

  • Provide proactive and as-needed individual and small-group student support
  • Attend parent, IEP, and student support meetings as appropriate
  • Maintain regular communication with families and outside providers/therapists to support continuity of care, as appropriate

Classroom Guidance, Programming & Prevention (25%)

  • Design and deliver classroom guidance lessons for grades K–8 aligned with social and emotional learning and developmental milestones
  • Coordinate and support school-wide wellness programming, including:
    • Scheduling and managing guest speakers and annual wellness programming
    • Supporting ad hoc wellness initiatives

Leadership, PBIS & Collaboration Teams (20%)

  • Lead weekly implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
  • Serve as PBIS team lead (approximately five members) and facilitate monthly meetings
  • Serve as a member of the Academic Resource Team alongside the Resource Director, who oversees the implementation of student accommodation plans

Professional Engagement & External Collaboration (10%)

  • Attend Archdiocesan-wide counselor meetings (both in-person and virtual), as coordinated by the Director of Student Support Services
  • Collaborate regularly with administration
Position Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, education, or a related field
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in counseling or a related field, or currently working toward one
  • Preferred: Licensure in social work or counseling and/or current Maryland School Counselor certification
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with experience working with diverse populations

Pay Range: $50,000 – 68,000, Annualized
