POSITION: TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION TEACHER – SCHOOL YEAR

LOCATION: To be determined

REPORTS TO: School Principal

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. Supervises students, monitors and evaluates outcomes, communicates with stakeholders, develops instructional plans, maintains records and follows procedures, and monitors equipment use.

Education, Certification, and Experience
  • Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate, or Advanced Professional Certificate in the appropriate field; or
  • Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in COMAR
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral expression
  • Ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as appropriate
  • Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the responsibilities listed
Essential Job Functions, Responsibilities, and Duties
  • Creates a classroom environment that makes space for student voice, agency, and is intellectually and socially safe for learning.
  • Develops classroom routines and rituals to support a culture of learning and utilizes proactive, evidence-based strategies to manage conflict and redirect negative behavior.
  • Maintains order and discipline in the classroom, conducive to effective learning, and takes necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Plans and prepares lessons individually and collaboratively, aligned with Calvert County curricula that outline clear learning goals, assignments, and instructional materials that promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Incorporates research-based strategies, evidence-based practices, and instructional technology within the learning process.
  • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials aligned to Calvert County curricula that meet the needs of every student regardless of background, ability, or socio-economic status.
  • Monitors and evaluates student progress and outcomes using formative and summative assessment techniques.
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results.
  • Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research, and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, cultural responsiveness, problem solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Plans purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Confers with parents and students regarding academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral progress, and arranges and participates in conferences as necessary.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and professional learning sessions.
  • Supervises students in various school-related settings.
  • Serves on special committees.
  • Attends special events such as open house and registration nights.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary.
  • Works under stress and meets deadlines.
  • Maintains regular, on‑time attendance.

OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the school principal or designee.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to flexible work schedule.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt
