Qualifications:
Master's Degree, or higher, in an applicable field from an accredited college or university. Holds or is eligible for a valid Advanced Professional Certificate/License from the Maryland State Department of Education with the Administrator II (historical) or the new Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, or Principal endorsement. Five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills Energetic, dynamic leader who possesses a strong community vision Ability to organize, delegate, and supervise Knowledge of effective school practices, including instruction, administration, management, and leadership skills Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and data collection Knowledge and understanding of the education laws of Maryland, Maryland State Board of Education, and Garrett County Board of Education policies and procedures preferred.
Data-driven decision making and experience analyzing data for growth Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
Responsibilities and Duties:
Responsible for the total school program and facilities with major responsibility for the observation, supervision, and evaluation of personnel assigned to the school. Provides strong leadership for the instructional and non-instructional programs in accordance with the Garrett County Board of Education's goals, objectives, and priorities Arranges appropriate assistance and curriculum and staff development activities in order to improve instruction, learning, and the instructional program Assesses staff performance through informal and formal conferences, observations, and evaluations Assumes responsibility for the functioning of the School Improvement Team Provides for appropriate care and upkeep of facilities and grounds Develops and promotes a positive public image of the school Demonstrates and provides for positive human relationships within the school, between the school and community, and between the school and other schools Analyzes and provides for the needs of the student population Provides ways of assessing student achievement in terms of school/system goals, objectives, and priorities Provides a climate that encourages and fosters effective communication Assists in the selection of all personnel employed in the school Demonstrates knowledge of effective instructional strategies Delegates responsibilities to personnel in the school as appropriate Develops with the assistance of school staff and community the school's philosophy and objectives Develops and maintains an effective program of student discipline Prepares school budgets and operates with approved amounts Maintains the school's budget and the collection and the expenditure of all school funds in accordance with the school system's procedures Develops and maintains positive school community relations Maintains necessary records as required by the Superintendent Performs such other duties that may be assigned, as well as non-instructional duties Principal will be responsible for teaching along with all the responsibilities associated for a minimum of 2 hours per day Performs such other duties that may be assigned
