POSITION SUMMARY
:
Under direction of the school principal, and the supervisor of special education, plans and provides specially designed instruction, supports, and services for students with disabilities. Develops appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet academic, behavioral, social and emotional needs of students. Plans instruction and materials, may occur in various settings including general education, self-contained special education, and regional programs. Provides a positive atmosphere and environment conducive to student development.
Supervises students, monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates with students, parents, staff, and community. Designs, adapts and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet individual needs. Maintains records and follows required regulations. Monitors use and care of equipment and facilities.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
:
At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
- A Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional Certificate in the appropriate field of education; or
- A Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in COMAR
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
:
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
- Knowledge of diverse populations and ability to maintain rapport with diverse groups.
- Working knowledge of current classroom technology.
- Knowledge of disabilities and evidence-based practices for working with students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of educational assessment instruments/results.
- Knowledge of special education regulations and the IEP process.
- Ability to write IEPs and deliver specially designed instruction.
- Knowledge of general education curriculum and standards.
- Interpersonal skills when working with diverse groups.
- Ability to interpret data to adjust instruction and communicate progress.
- Demonstrated success in tasks related to responsibilities.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Plans and provides specially designed instruction, supports, and services for students with disabilities.
- Develops IEPs to meet academic, behavioral, social and emotional needs of students.
- Creates a classroom environment that supports student voice and is safe for learning.
- Develops classroom routines to support learning and uses proactive strategies to manage conflict and behavior.
- Maintains order and discipline conducive to learning and ensures safety of students, equipment, and facilities.
- Plans lessons aligned with Calvert County curricula with clear goals and materials.
- Incorporates research-based strategies and instructional technology.
- Adapts materials to meet the needs of every student.
- Completes IEP paperwork accurately and timely.
- Monitors student progress using formative and summative assessments and IEP data.
- Prepares and records evaluations and educational assessment reports for IEP.
- Improves knowledge of current trends and practices in instruction and cultural responsiveness.
- Plans for instructional assistants and volunteers.
- Coordinates with instructional staff to implement IEPs and meet student needs.
- Maintains records and follows procedures.
- Communicates with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Serves as an IEP team member and case manager for designated students.
- Conferences with parents and students about progress; participates in conferences as needed.
- Attends staff meetings and required trainings.
