Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.

With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

JOB SUMMARY:

Part-time instructors at Cecil College are a contract employee who is hired to teach specific disciplines per the program schedule. Part-time instructors do not have a college service requirement.

Due to the need for interaction with students, employees, and the college community, this position requires in-person presence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepare for class by designing teaching strategies and student learning experiences to meet the established course objectives.
  • Incorporate adult learning theory into the teaching strategies and learning experiences to facilitate the student's learning.
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to deliver course content that is based upon a pre-established curriculum, syllabus, course outline, and competency tools.
  • Establish individual schedules for course content delivery that are based on the established course outline and syllabus. Distribute a written copy to students on the first day of class.
  • Make student assignments and/or clinical assignments to achieve established course competencies according to the course outline and syllabus.
  • Devise appropriate student evaluation methods to validate learning based on the program's established competency standards.
  • Evaluate objectively, each student's performance based upon established program competencies and standards.
  • Submit all student's grades, attendance, evaluations, class work, and other documents as necessary at the designated times.
  • Review textbooks for appropriate use for existing or new courses.
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings.
  • Participate in accreditation activities for the program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services or related field is preferred. Prior teaching experience and certification may be considered in lieu of the degree preference.
  • Prior teaching experience in the related field. Only completed applications (resume, letter of application and unofficial transcripts) will receive consideration. Only applicants who are authorized to work in the United States will be eligible for hire.   • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and problem‑solving, skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
