Job DescriptionWe are accepting applications for the 2026-27 school year. Individual must have teaching endorsement as a Media Specialist.
This position shall provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned by the Building Principal, Supervisor of Instruction or Director of Schools.
- Develops and implements an effective library program which supports the mission, philosophy, vision and goals of the school system.
- Provides advisory services on matters pertaining to library media programs to individual faculties and staff.
- Provides technical assistance to identify concerns related to project implementation in order to provide resolution.
- Collaborates with teachers, administrators and other staff members to build and maintain a media collection that meets the learning needs of all students.
- Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the media center acquires.
- Evaluates school media programs and plan for necessary changes.
- Serves on curriculum committees and participates in curriculum development which integrates State Library Media Standards across the curriculum.
- Provides dissemination of educational information to the professional staff, in addition to providing a professional library in the media center.
- Assumes responsibility for local and state media reports and surveys.
- Collaborates with other libraries in the community.
- Instructs students and teachers in the use of the media center and its materials.
- Trains student library helpers and volunteers where appropriate.
- Provides guidance with reference questions.
- Plans daily lessons to meet library media goals and/or to enrich and extend content curriculum.
- Implements fixed and flexible scheduling according to the school’s master schedule and instructional needs.
- Supervises the day to day operation of the media center.
- Creates an attractive, inviting and pleasant place for learning.
- Collaborates with content teachers to provide for classroom and media center activities.
- Counsels and gives reading guidance to students who have reading difficulties.
- Serves as the facilitator for the collection development of the media center.
- Integrates technology into instruction, information access, and program management processes and procedures.
- Provides professional development to teachers and other staff members on the integration of technology into the curriculum.

Education and/or ExperienceMust have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of education. Prior experience as a classroom teacher is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsCurrent Maryland State Teaching Certificate required with an endorsement in an instructional area. Must have an endorsement in Media.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional and trade journals, technical procedures, or instructional textbooks and instructional aides. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals and provide detailed data analysis as directed. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, administrators, local, state and federal agency officials and the general public.
