Garrison Forest School seeks a Long Term Substitute in Upper School English, to begin August 2026 and go through the end of November. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who brings an energetic and innovative approach to the teaching of English. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and meets with the English Department Chair.
The salary range for this position is $18,000-$30,750 based on years of experience and education level; the exact compensation will be discussed during the hiring process.
- Teach five Upper School English classes.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter
- Be prepared to teach and support students in the development of core academic skills, including writing, critical reading, and discussion
- Create a secure and stimulating environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together
- Take responsibility for being a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues
- Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of early adolescence and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues
- B.A. degree or equivalent – Master’s degree desirable
- Prior experience teaching English literature and composition
- Prior experience working with high school students in a school
