Mathematics Faculty Position

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure track position teaching mathematics courses. Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, tuition remission, and more.

While research experience is desired, emphasis is placed on excellence in teaching. Experience working with undergraduates using innovative course delivery methods, student-centered techniques, and delivery of real-world experiences for students are highly desired. The ideal candidate will contribute to the mission of preparing students from a variety of backgrounds to be successful. Beyond teaching classes, experience with placement or remediation is necessary.

In addition, the individual filling this position will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate coursework, in research/scholarship, and service to the Department, University, and the Profession.

Responsibilities include teaching twelve (12) credit hours of undergraduate-level Mathematics courses per semester, developing and delivering course information to foster student learning and increase student engagement, collaborating with the Department on the issues of course placement, remediation, and overall course design, evaluating and revising department curriculum, course materials, and delivery methods as changes in pedagogy and teaching environments warrant, reviewing, evaluating, and revising Department policy and curriculum in conjunction with other Department members to enhance student academic and career success, preparing and executing an annual personal development program including increasing both course content knowledge and teaching effectiveness skills, and performing other related duties assigned by the department Chair.

Required Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Statistics, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related area. ABD candidates will be considered if degree is conferred by the effective date of appointment. Candidates must provide evidence or potential for productivity in teaching undergraduate coursework, in research/scholarship, and service to the Department, University, and the Profession.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities include strong communication skills, including written communication, ability to effectively communicate fundamental mathematics content to students, and the ability to handle multiple tasks, assess and order priorities, and track details in an intense environment.

Physical Demands may require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk, and lifting. Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally. Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
