Job Summary:
The Special Education Lead Teacher will work directly with their school-based IEP Chairperson and the Department of Special Education in order to:
- Gain further understanding of the procedural and legal requirements of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process through attendance at various professional development activities such as IEP Chairpersons' meeting and after school workshops.
- Serve as an on-site resource and support for colleagues in their school building.
- Share information at their school in specific areas/components of the IEP process such as writing standards-based IEPs, data collection, Maryland Online IEP, etc.
- Facilitate professional development at their schools under the direction of the Special Education Department.
- Develop skills in the area of IEP meeting facilitation and decision making.

Terms of Employment:
Extra-duty, extra-pay position:
If continued grant funding is available, lead teachers hired for the 2025-26 school year may continue in the position for the 2026-27 school year if interested and if assigned to the same school. Applicants must currently be employed as a special education teacher or speech-language pathologist due to restrictions of the grant funding. Applicants may only apply for the position at his/her assigned school.

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
