About UMES and the School of Veterinary Medicine The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is an 1890 land-grant, historically Black institution and part of the University System of Maryland. Its School of Veterinary Medicine is being established as the first veterinary school in Maryland and the first at a public HBCU. The SVM offers an accelerated, three-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program built on a competency-based, systems-integrated curriculum and a One Health philosophy, preparing day-one-ready veterinarians for companion-animal, food-animal and rural, equine, public health, biomedical research, and food-safety careers.
The program is designed to graduate approximately 100 students per year and is advancing through accreditation with the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE).
Because the SVM is a developing program, this role offers an unusual opportunity to design an outcomes and assessment infrastructure from the ground up rather than inherit an existing one.
