NHS Marching Band Color Guard Instructor (Job # 3622)
Location: Northern High School, Owings, Maryland;
Starting Date: Immediately
Job Summary: The marching band front instructor represents the principal to ensure that the marching band reflects the school community. The instructor works with the administration, band director, students, and adjudicators to provide a successful experience and public performances through camps, rehearsals, and events. The instructor enforces policies of the Board of Education, the school, the Maryland Music Educators Association, and the Tournament of Bands Association.
Reports To: School Principal
Qualifications and Experience- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated management, leadership, and human relations skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions
- Proven ability to carry an assignment to completion
- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the duties and responsibilities listed below
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
- Select uniforms for front members in coordination with the show concept
- Attend rehearsals, band camps, and performances, actively assisting students in sectional and whole-group rehearsals
- Teach color guard basics (flag footwork, marching footwork)
- Choreograph and teach the routine for the show
- Assign equipment responsibilities and allocate equipment to students
- Work with the band director to coordinate flags and props for the show
- Work with the drill writer to check the positioning of the color guard in each musical selection
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Band Director to ensure program success
Other Duties: Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal and/or Athletic Director
Physical Demands: Requires significant periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment
Unusual Demands: None
Terms of Employment: Salary commensurate with experience;
Extra Pay for Extra Duty;
Longevity Pay Schedule
FLSA Status: Exempt
Evaluation: Performance evaluated in accordance with Calvert County Public Schools policy
