Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: Provide job-embedded instructional mentoring to support the professional growth and effectiveness of non-tenured teachers, teachers new to Calvert County Public Schools, and identified teachers requiring additional support. Facilitate a structured mentoring experience that emphasizes instructional practice, student achievement, and teacher development through consistent, data-informed, and differentiated support aligned to the Teacher Induction Program.
REPORTS TO: Principal
Education, Certification, and ExperienceAt the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
- A Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate, Advanced Professional Certificate, Initial Professional License (IPL), Professional License (PL), or Advanced Professional License (APL).
- A minimum of three (3) years of PreK–12 teaching experience with a satisfactory evaluation.
At the time of employment, the candidate must:
- Demonstrate effective instructional practices, classroom management strategies, and use of data to inform instruction.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills to build trusting professional relationships with mentees.
- Demonstrate the ability to engage in reflective practice and support adult learning.
- Demonstrate knowledge of teaching standards, curriculum, and assessment practices.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with mentees and administrators.
- Demonstrate the ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff, and community members.
- Facilitate the successful onboarding and integration of new and non-tenured teachers into the school and district culture.
- Develop and maintain a collaborative, trusting mentoring relationship that supports individualized teacher growth.
- Provide consistent, differentiated mentoring support aligned to teacher experience level and needs.
- Meet with assigned mentees regularly to fulfill required mentoring time allocations (minimum minutes per marking period as defined by COMAR and district guidance).
- Model effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and professional practices.
- Facilitate instructionally focused conversations that improve student learning, engagement, and achievement.
- Analyze student data and instructional practices with mentees to inform planning and improve outcomes.
- Support mentees in planning, assessment, classroom management, and implementation of research-based instructional strategies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of mentoring activities through required log submissions in the Professional Learning platform.
- Participate in required mentor training and ongoing professional learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with school administrators through quarterly meetings to align mentoring support with school goals and teacher needs.
- Adhere to confidentiality expectations while maintaining a focus on instructional growth and student success.
- Implement mentoring practices aligned to district mentor standards and guiding principles.
Perform related work as assigned by the principal in support of the Teacher Induction Program.
Physical DemandsPosition requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
