POSITION: SECONDARY REGIONAL ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION TEACHER

LOCATION: Calvert County Alternative Program
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of Student Services, in collaboration with the Coordinator of Alternative Education, plans and implements a program for students to improve performance, attendance, behavior, remediate academic deficiencies, and facilitate student success in the regular school program. Utilizing proactive instructional and social‑emotional strategies to identify needed skills for success in a school environment.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services, Coordinator of Alternative Education
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE- A professional teaching certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education; or
- A conditional degree certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education as outlined in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).
- At least three years of successful teaching experience preferred.
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
- Understanding and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
- Satisfactory evaluations and demonstrated mastery of the essential skills of teaching.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students.
- Provide social skills and behavior modification activities.
- Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
- Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet student needs.
- Create an atmosphere and environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
- Provide students with the skills to successfully return to their original placement.
- Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices.
- Monitor use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities to deliver effective individualized instruction.
- Collaborate with regular education staff regarding instructional accommodations and modifications.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTTen (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools’ salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.
EVALUATIONPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
