Responsibilities

As our Test Engineer II
, this individual will be responsible for ensuring the quality and functionality of products by designing and executing tests, identifying issues, and collaborating with other internal disciplines. This role supports new product development, design and fabrication of new test equipment, maintains and operates existing test equipment, and is ultimately responsible for the planning, execution, and documentation of in-house or external 3rd party tests.

  • Writes clear and concise test plans, specifications and testing procedures.
  • Reads and understands test plans, procedures, and technical drawings. Sets up and conducts tests per written procedure, and documents the results.
  • Uses best scientific and engineering practices to collect meaningful data, then interprets and generates test reports.
  • Documents results in a professional and accurate manner.
  • Reviews and interprets product specifications and risk assessments, then translates the information into test plans to qualify designs, proof of concept, and final products.
  • Maintains and improves existing test criteria, and creates new testing criteria as needed.
  • Improves and maintains ELSCO Engineering's pool of custom R&D Test Equipment.
  • Enhances testing capabilities as needed by creating new test equipment. Generates requirements, designs, documents, fabricates, and commissions new custom test equipment. Takes part in selecting hardware components and/or designing test apparatus when necessary.
  • Maintains electronic drawing files, specifications and other reference materials as they pertain to testing.
  • Develops software controls for test apparatus and/or gathers data from software for analysis.
  • Calibrates test equipment.
  • As needed, assists with processing change orders, part number requests and bills of materials.
  • As needed, assists the procurement team with technical inquiries and vendor visits.
  • Operates in accordance with quality and/or ISO procedures, and lean manufacturing processes.
  • Promotes safe work practices and contributes to continuous improvement projects in the manufacturing facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Background and

Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Materials Science.
  • 4+ years experience working hands-on in an engineering testing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating, editing, and documenting test plans.
  • Demonstrated experience in calibrating test equipment.
  • Working understanding of various materials and how testing methods and conditions can influence materials selection.
  • Working understanding of vibrating mechanical systems and stress and tolerance analysis.
  • Working understanding of data acquisition systems, sensors and data processing.
  • Demonstrated hands-on approach to design and testing, comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with hand tools.
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor or similar tools.
  • Proven record of excellent verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with all levels of employees within the company as well as with external vendors or customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and take initiative in a changing workplace environment.
