Job Summary: Client is seeking a senior structural engineer with ten or more years of experience. The successful individual will work closely with business development and other discipline leaders to develop technical proposals and play a proactive role in marketing and business development. The role offers the opportunity to help build and mentor a dedicated team in a collaborative, multidisciplinary office, while working directly with clients to provide consulting services.
Experience is required in design of steel, concrete, and masonry for commercial, institutional, federal and industrial buildings, both new and existing construction, utility infrastructure, roadway, and erosion control projects. Innovative, results‑oriented individuals who value high standards and teamwork are highly desired.
- B.S. degree in civil engineering from an ABET–accredited program
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE)
- 10 or more years of structural engineering experience
- Experience with computer software and analysis systems such as RISA, AutoCAD, Revit, RamSS, Etabs, Enercalc, etc.
- Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and time‑management skills
- Project management experience and/or certifications
- Desire to lead inter‑disciplinary projects and project teams
- Perform the following functions:
- Structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial and industrial projects
- Design of steel, concrete, and masonry for commercial/institutional, federal and industrial buildings in new and existing construction
- Design experience with light‑gauge steel and timber is a plus
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings
- Lead design team efforts
- Manage project team for budget and schedule control
- Develop fee and qualification‑based proposals
- Collaborate with architects, owners, and contractors to provide well‑coordinated and high‑quality structural drawings
- Multi‑task and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment
- Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; understanding of database concepts; working knowledge of marketing databases and proposal resources files
- Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale
- Ability to travel
- Work closely with other Coffman offices (Raleigh, Atlanta) to complete projects and tasks
