About the RoleThe Estimator develops accurate cost estimates for telecommunications infrastructure projects by reviewing drawings, performing material and labor takeoffs, and coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors. The role requires strong low-voltage systems knowledge, the ability to identify scope gaps and risks, and skill in assessing constructability and cost impacts. Success is measured by estimate accuracy, complete scope coverage, effective bid support, and a smooth handoff to operations.
Key Responsibilities- Apply knowledge of low‑voltage systems including fiber, copper, pathways, and rack/panel design.
- Use TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC, and industry standards to review project documentation.
- Support data center and structured cabling designs across core, distribution, and access environments.
- Incorporate basic CCTV and security infrastructure understanding when applicable.
- Review drawings, specs, RFIs, and scope documents; develop BOMs and material takeoffs.
- Contribute to OSP/ISP estimating and perform occasional field surveys and constructability reviews.
- Produce complete bid packages including takeoffs, labor builds, vendor pricing, and scope narratives.
- Collaborate with Sales, PM, and Engineering on proposals and pricing reviews.
- Maintain pricing libraries, unit rates, and historical cost benchmarks.
- Generate RFIs and validate scope requirements as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- 3 - 5 Years Estimator experience.
- Strong ability to identify scope gaps, risks, and value‑engineering opportunities.
- Proficiency with pricing models (unit cost, fixed price, T&M) and tools such as Excel, Bluebeam, or similar.
- Ability to clearly present estimates to internal stakeholders and leadership.
- High attention to detail in bills of materials and quote comparisons.
- Experience performing site surveys and documenting field conditions.
- Working knowledge of installation methods (pathways, ladders, containment, racks, cabinets).
- Ability to identify constructability issues and installation impacts.
- Understanding of commercial impacts including margin and overhead.
- Experience reviewing subcontractor proposals and supporting change orders.
- OSP/ISP estimating experience preferred.
- BICSI (RCDD, DCD, TECH) or manufacturer certifications (Comm Scope, Corning, Panduit, Siemon) preferred.
