Job Overview

Coffman Engineers’ DC Metro office is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Discipline Engineer with 10 or more years of experience to join our growing team. The role blends technical consulting, forensic support, department development, and mentorship of junior staff while fostering strong client relationships and ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering from an accredited college or university (Fire Protection specific degree not required).
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Fire Protection License issued by any U.S. state.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the Fire Protection profession, with a focus on forensics support.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, IBC, and related standards.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and oral presentation skills.
  • Travel required.
Duties and Skills
  • Manage day‑to‑day contacts with internal and external clients, leveraging technology to meet expectations.
  • Lead internal projects and staff while addressing external client needs.
  • Develop new clients and business opportunities.
  • Provide expert consultation and advice to attorneys, adjustors, claims handlers, insureds, and other stakeholders on subrogation, liability, construction‑related claims, and other litigation matters.
  • Ensure proper evidence collection, handling, storage, and examination practices.
  • Serve as expert witness in testimony engagements.
  • Perform analysis of fire protection systems—including water‑based systems, special hazards systems, and fire detection, alarm, and mass notification systems.
  • Conduct building and fire code analysis and interpretation.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Approximate Base Salary – $150k‑$215k (determined by qualifications and relevant experience).
  • Hybrid work schedule (subject to change).
  • 401(k) with up to 5% contribution matching for 9% employee contribution.
