Tactical Data Link Systems Engineer
Primary obligation for this position will be in support of the United States Coast Guard in the National Capital Region, Andrews Air Force Base, MD. Interested candidates must be willing to travel with little to no notice to support customer events. A Secret Clearance is required for this position.
This position is a fully onsite role located at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. This role may require atypical hours at times based on customer need. Position may require approximately 40% travel. This role is eligible for relocation.
What You Will Do
- Configure, program, and troubleshoot Tactical Data Link (TDL) systems, including Link-16 equipment, and assist in their installation within operations centers. Provide training to personnel on the operation and maintenance of TDL systems.
- Support the integration of selected TDL systems into U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) rotary-wing aircraft, ensuring seamless functionality with existing platforms and mission requirements.
- Perform sustainment activities for TDL equipment, including scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance to ensure optimal operational readiness.
- Enhance TDL capabilities by collaborating with key stakeholders, including suppliers, aircrew, and maintenance personnel, to drive continuous improvements and mission success.
- Serve as a liaison between internal and external communications personnel, aircrew members, maintenance teams, and Joint Interface Control Officers (JICOs) to ensure effective communication and coordination.
- Assist in the development, installation, testing, and evaluation of TDL equipment and associated software.
- Configure, program, and troubleshoot TDL networks, communications systems, and display equipment, including radios and end-user devices (EUDs).
- Address and resolve network and aircraft configuration issues, including TDL and Link-16 systems.
- Investigate and analyze engineering challenges and propose potential system enhancements to improve TDL performance and reliability.
- Role may require atypical hours at times based on customer need. May also require up to 40% travel.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- Experience operating/troubleshooting integrated digital avionics and communications equipment.
- Experience with RF energies operating in the UHF, VHF, HF, L, C, S and KU bands.
- Experience with anti-jam/anti-spoof GPS receivers and GPS Devices.
- Experience with TRAX, ATRAX, WINTAK, and ATAK software applications.
- Experience with the Small Tactical Terminal (STT) and the PRC-161 BATS D Handheld Link-16 Radio.
- Experience with operating, loading, troubleshooting software defined radio sets.
- Experience with Microsoft products to include Excel, Visio, and Access Database.
- Experience operating, monitoring, and translating data using network analyzers and sniffers.
- Experience utilizing spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, and arbitrary waveform generators.
- Experience crypto-loading of Type
-1 crypto modernized/software defined radio suites. - Experience handling/operating cryptographic keying devices.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience operating/troubleshooting integrated digital avionics and communications equipment on United States Coast Guard MH-65 and MH-60 Rotary Wing Aircraft.
- 10+ Years of Tactical Data Link background with Link-16 Experience.
- Successful completion of the JT-102 Multi-TDL Advanced Interoperability Course (MAJIC).
- Successful completion of the JT-201 Multi-TDL Planners Course.
- Successful completion of the Link-16 Unit Manager Course JT-220.
- Experience with the Link-16 Pulse Deconfliction Server and FAA Link-16 requirements.
