Battery Project Engineer

Teledyne Energy Systems, Inc., located 20 minutes north of Baltimore, Maryland, is a leading provider of custom power systems and gas generation solutions based on proprietary fuel cells, electrolysis, thermoelectric technologies, advanced battery systems, and staffed with highly talented professionals. This role is a Battery Engineer with five or more years of related experience serving as a project engineer with a leadership role in lithium‑ion (Li‑ion) product development programs.

• Develop Li‑ion cell and electrode design to meet customer‑specified electrical requirements for rechargeable battery.
• Develop battery products from first concept design stage, optimize cell performance, validate/qualification testing, and produce a CDR and transition to manufacturing.
• Lead development phases, including design refinement, validation, and implementation in manufacturing settings.
• Correlate electrochemical data and process parameters to optimize Li‑ion cell design and performance.
• Develop test procedures and implement test plans, analyze data, and support prototype fabrication and testing on the manufacturing floor (40‑60% of time).
• Write product specifications, operation procedures, and technical reports; interface with customers and suppliers.
• Assume a leadership role in technical projects while working in a team environment.

• A Ph.D., Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering.
• Five or more years’ experience in battery development and manufacturing environment.
• Strong chemistry, materials science, and chemical engineering background; experience with battery or electrochemical cell design, electrode coating, cell (pouch, hardware, cylindrical) development process techniques.
• Experience with advanced battery materials such as high‑energy cathode, silicon anode, and wide‑temperature electrolytes.
• Knowledge of electrochemical characterization techniques.
• Experience with CAD solid modeling and engineering drawings preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

$120,000 - $150,000 (estimated).
