Senior Systems Design Engineer

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Systems Design Engineer to architect, model, and analyze complex defense and aerospace systems in the Engineering & Design Department. You will lead end-to-end systems engineering-from concept development, requirements, and trade studies to integration and verification-for mission-critical national security and space programs. Collaborating with multidisciplinary experts, you'll apply MBSE and digital engineering tools to deliver innovative, resilient solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end systems engineering for complex defense and aerospace projects
• Develop system architectures, requirements, and interface definitions
• Apply MBSE and Sys
• ML to create and manage digital system models
• Plan and execute trade studies, performance analyses, and simulations
• Guide integration, verification, and validation of system designs
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external sponsors
• Document designs, analyses, and results for technical reviews
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy
