Overview

The Lead Project Accountant is responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process including categorizing, recording, analyzing and monitoring costs and billings associated with a large construction project as well as several smaller, less complex projects. This role also ensures vendor compliance to manage project risk and supervises a team of project accountants supporting various construction projects. The position works closely with Project Managers to ensure timely and accurate accounting and risk management throughout the project life cycle.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions.
  • Maintains integrity of accounting systems and internal controls within assigned areas.
  • Monitors financials; coordinates the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data.
  • Prepares standard and special reports.
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices, current and proposed legislation and regulation; recommends changes to accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Works with the accounting manager on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
  • Leads departmental projects including the change/implementation of new policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and completes analysis of complex accounting issues.
  • Provides coaching and/or training to and supervises less-experienced Project Accountants.
  • Makes decisions independently and implements resolutions to decisions.
  • Leads the team and provides performance feedback and coaching.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or Construction Management
  • Excellent organization skills with high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc. required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to transfer knowledge to junior level staff
  • Excellent ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent ability to analyze and resolve difficult issues
  • Excellent ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
