Watershed Ranger III
Salary Range: $73,897 - $118,515 / Annually
Hiring Salary Range: $73,897 – $96,206 / Annually
Job Summary:
A Watershed Ranger III enforces criminal, civil, natural resource protocols, laws, rules and regulations and conducts natural resource conservation activities at and in the vicinity of the Baltimore City watersheds. Work of this class involves leading watershed ranger staff, but does not involve full supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in park administration, park management, natural, environmental or biological sciences or a related field.
AND
Experience:
Have four years of natural resources conservation activities or law enforcement experience.
OR
Equivalency Notes:
Have one year of experience in park administration, park management, natural, environmental or biological sciences or in enforcing rules and regulations in a park environment may substitute for each year of the university requirement.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of criminal, civil and traffic laws of Maryland as they pertain to watershed and reservoir properties and natural resources.
- Knowledge of natural resources conservation principals and methods as they pertain to the watershed.
- Knowledge of forestry, fisheries and wildlife management practices.
- Knowledge of survey, inspection and investigative techniques including the securing of evidence from contamination and the protection of crime scenes.
- Knowledge of varying degrees of use of force and the proper use and care of firearms.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement quickly and in stressful situations.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret and enforce criminal, civil and traffic laws and agency policies, procedures and regulations.
- Ability to assign and review the work of others.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and agencies including the public and law enforcement and municipal authorities.
- Ability to evaluate problems in enforcement and natural resource conservation and make and implement corrective actions.
- Ability to train and guide others in natural resource conservation and law enforcement.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to write accurate and complete forms and reports.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles and marine vessels safely and effectively.
Additional Information
Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation
