The Executive Director of Public Safety and Chief of College Police is the primary leader in establishing best practices for planning, organizing, leading, directing, and controlling security and safety operations of the college and the extension campuses. Ensures that college employees, constituents, and visitors adhere to federal, state, and local rules and regulations, and the college code, and policy and procedures.

Actively plan and respond to emergencies and promote community-oriented policing to prevent and control safety challenges.

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

Some significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions are required.

Must be able to work flexible hours.
Expected to be able to supervise various shifts that include 24-hour, 7 day a week coverage 365 days a year
Ability to physically perform the required duties of the position which include walking, climbing, running or lifting.
Must complete annual in-service training and fire arms qualifications
Ability to obtain a Maryland Special Police Commission required
Ability to possess a Maryland Handgun permit required
Valid Maryland State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration, or related discipline required.
Supplementary course work in criminal justice or security.
Certified as a police officer or eligible for a provisional certification.
Master’s degree preferred.

Five years of experience as an officer with a law enforcement agency (could be federal, state or local agency) required
10 years’ experience showing supervisory level in a command level role Must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Police Officer certification for the State of Maryland, and comply with all Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission requirements.
Security experience gained at a college or university campus preferred.
