Medical Assistant; Department of Dermatology

The Department of Dermatology, Cosmetic Center is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) who will function as an integral member of the clinic team. Mandatory rotation between general Dermatology, Cosmetics, and Surgery. Responsible for direct patient care and clinic operations, including the maintenance of the environment of care and supplies/equipment. Will share the responsibility with other clinicians in ensuring a safe environment for the patient while providing quality care and a positive patient experience.

Will function clinically under the authority of the physician within the scope of their certification.

• Operate electronic monitoring equipment.
• Input and obtain data, determine appropriate information and resources needed related to clinical situation, and organize and summarize information.
• Communicates with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members to foster optimal quality of outpatient care.
• Uses general physiological monitoring equipment, including but not limited to vital signs machine (automated & manual), height, weight, cardiac monitor, ECG, point-of–care equipment, sterilization equipment, scopes, and emergency equipment.
• Identify signs indicative of a changing patient care situation and notify the appropriate individual based on the issue.
• Identifies and recommends opportunities for improvement to ensure patient safety and quality outcomes.
• Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, takes appropriate clinical actions using available resources to achieve positive outcomes for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Independently prioritizes daily tasks and assignments.
• Follows established policies and procedures.
• Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, such as courses provided through Medix, community colleges, and/or vocational schools.
• Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g., CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP) required. If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/registered within 180 days (6 months) of the date of hire.
• Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.
• Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration during the duration of employment in this position.
• High school education or graduation equivalent.
• Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma / graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

• Experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in dermatology.
