Job Summary

Assist physicians and physician assistants with the care of patients in a medical office setting. Responsibilities include pre‑visit planning, patient rooming, medication reconciliation in the electronic medical record (EMR), and performing clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, EKGs, vision and hearing screenings, and phlebotomy.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare examination rooms and patient charts; escort patients to rooms and prepare them for examinations.
  • Accurately record height, weight, blood pressure, and other vital data; enter findings into the EMR and graph results.
  • Ask patients or guardians for reason of visit and document accordingly.
  • Prepare charts for upcoming visits with required paperwork.
  • Perform vision and hearing screenings as requested by the physician.
  • Assist physicians and physician extenders with sick visits, preventive care visits, and paperwork preparation.
  • Clean and restock rooms and equipment daily; complete end‑of‑day checklists.
  • Secure referrals and schedule appointments with specialists or for tests; relay messages to patients as directed by physicians.
  • Assist front‑desk staff with answering phones, filing, and other clerical duties.
  • Perform phlebotomy via venipuncture or finger stick; prepare urine cultures and run laboratory tests such as strep tests.
  • Assist physicians, extenders, and nurses with procedures; prepare instruments for autoclaving.
  • Transport charts to and from the front desk as needed; prepare new patient charts.
  • File patient visit documents and notes; support front‑desk Receptionist responsibilities.
  • Document all patient information within the EHR accurately and thoroughly.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Certificate in Medical Assisting or Phlebotomy preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a hospital setting or medical office.
  • Medium proficiency in Phlebotomy and Medical Records Systems.
  • High proficiency in taking vital signs.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
