Systems Administrator, Unix/Linux
Location: Laurel
Columbia Technology Partners is seeking a Linux System Administrator 2 to support the day‑to‑day operations, maintenance, and performance of mission‑critical IT systems. The role focuses on administering Linux‑based environments while ensuring system reliability, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency across enterprise and secure enclave environments.
Key Responsibilities- Provide hands‑on support for the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Linux‑based systems
- Manage daily system operations, including patching, configuration, and updates across server environments
- Monitor system performance and respond to alerts, outages, and operational issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues at both Tier 1 and Tier 2 support levels
- Administer user accounts, permissions, and access controls across Linux systems
- Configure, maintain, and optimize system services, storage, and networking components
- Support system security requirements, including applying patches, maintaining logs, and ensuring compliance with security policies
- Assist with vulnerability remediation and system hardening activities
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve incidents and improve system performance
- Maintain system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
- Support system upgrades, deployments, and integration activities across environments
- 10+ years of experience in Systems Administration, with a strong focus on Linux environments
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (or additional experience in lieu of degree)
- Strong experience with Linux distributions (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) and system administration tasks
- Experience with troubleshooting, system monitoring, and performance tuning in enterprise environments
- Familiarity with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible)
- Security+ Certification required

- Certification Requirements:
- DoD 8570/8140 compliance (e.g., Security+ CE)
