IT - Digital Forensics Engineer III
We are seeking a Digital Forensic Analyst to support a federal government agency. This role involves analyzing electronic media for sensitive, ongoing criminal investigations and operations. The analyst will use a variety of forensic tools to examine evidence from computers, storage devices, and mobile phones, preparing findings for potential use in legal proceedings. This position requires performing a range of forensic services, including evidence preservation, data recovery, and database examination.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform forensic analysis of digital information and handle evidence.
- Conduct digital evidence preservation, data recovery, and electronic mail extraction.
- Employ forensic tools to recover deleted, fragmented, and corrupted data from digital media.
- Observe evidence custody and control procedures.
- Document procedures and findings in a manner suitable for courtroom presentation.
- Prepare comprehensive written notes and reports.
- May be required to testify in federal or military court.
Required Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, a Master's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 3+ years of experience is required. A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or Data Science is preferred. An additional 4 years of relevant experience or specialized training may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
At least 4 years of experience conducting digital forensic analysis on a variety of media, including Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, and iOS. Experience supporting criminal investigations and writing technical reports is necessary.
Technical
Skills:
Experience with EnCase, FTK, X-Ways, Axiom, Forensic Explorer, Cellebrite, and other forensic tools. An understanding of network protocols, networking concepts, and virtual environments is required. Formalized training in computer science or forensics is needed.
Certifications:
One or more of the following active certifications is required:
Digital Media Collector (DMC), Digital Forensic Examiner (DFE), Cyber Crime Investigator (CCI), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), Certified Computer Examiner (CCE), Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE), GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner (GCFE), GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA), Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner (CCME), XRY, Oxygen Forensic® Certified Examiner (OFCE), EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE), X-Ways Professional in Evidence Recovery Techniques (X-PERT), Magnet Certified Forensic Examiner (MCFE), or data recovery-related certifications.
Additional Requirements:
Must pass the customer's Mentorship Program within 4 months of starting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Law Enforcement experience.
- Experience performing technical reviews or peer reviews.
- Experience mentoring other examiners.
- Experience testifying as an expert witness.
