Database Engineer in Hanover, MD. Security
Clearance Required:
TS/SCI w/ Polygraph. Salary Range: $175,000-$205,000, depending on experience.
The Database Engineer will provide both engineering and administration support with a focus on data optimization, handling large data sets, and seeking Oracle efficiencies. The role offers opportunities to optimize an Oracle system to operate at peak performance and efficiency. The ideal candidate will shape how massive and unusual data types are processed, stored, and leveraged. The DBE provides technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis.
This includes developing relational and/or Object-Oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software. The DBE projects long-range requirements for database administration and design and develops a database structure that fits into the overall architecture of the system under development, balancing data volumes, user counts, distribution, response times, retention, security, and domain controls. Work typically spans from requirements lifecycle through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC).
Develops requirements from project inception to conclusion for a business and information technology subject matter area. Assists with recommendations for and analysis and evaluation of systems improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts. Translates requirements and data into usable documents by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros; updates existing queries, creates new ones to manipulate data into a master file;
builds complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity, and cloud-based storage and retrieval.
- Experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL
- Experience in both database engineering and database administration
- Experience with data optimization, large data sets, and data organization
- IAT Level 2 Certification required at start date
- At least five (5) years of experience as a Database Engineer
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required; five (5) years of equivalent experience may be substituted for the degree for a total of ten (10) years of experience
