About the role

The Senior Global Commodity Manager - Chemicals Reagents will lead enterprise-wide commodity strategy, sourcing, supplier partnership management, and cost optimization for chemicals and reagents used across waste-to-energy plants, waste-processing facilities, and other industrial operations.

The role will manage a significant portfolio that includes lime, ammonia, urea, water and wastewater-treatment chemicals, carbon products, industrial gases, solidification materials, lubricants, and other chemicals and reagents required by the business.

A key focus of this position is building strong partnerships with strategic suppliers to improve total cost, product quality, technical support, service, innovation, and supply reliability. The role will lead complex cross-functional sourcing initiatives and balance enterprise strategies with the technical and operating requirements of individual facilities.

This is a senior individual-contributor position that leads cross-functional teams and may provide category-management guidance or mentorship to other procurement professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute enterprise-wide commodity strategies for chemicals and reagents.
  • Lead the complete sourcing process, including market analysis, RFI/RFP/RFQ development, supplier evaluation, negotiation strategy, contracting, implementation, and benefit tracking.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with key chemical and reagent suppliers.
  • Lead supplier business reviews, performance scorecards, escalations, and joint improvement plans.
  • Hold suppliers accountable for cost, safety, quality, service, delivery, technical support, innovation, and supply continuity.
  • Partner with suppliers, Operations, and Logistics to optimize freight, delivery methods, inventory levels, tank utilization, and supply reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, product standardization, demand management, alternative products, and total-cost improvement.
  • Balance enterprise commodity strategies with site-specific technical and operational requirements.
  • Partner with facility leadership, regional procurement, Operations, Engineering, Environmental, Safety, Finance, Legal, and Logistics.
  • Support supplier and chemical-product qualification, including specification reviews, technical evaluations, plant trials, risk assessments, and stakeholder approvals.
  • Monitor chemical markets, feedstock costs, freight, production capacity, and supply-chain risks.
  • Develop backup suppliers, alternative products, and business-continuity plans for critical chemicals.
  • Analyze spend, pricing, consumption, supplier performance, and market data and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Deliver measurable savings, cost avoidance, risk reduction, working-capital improvement, and service improvement.
  • Support other procurement priorities based on business needs.
  • Up to 30% travel time, could be international travel

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, procurement, supply chain, or commercial management.
  • Candidates must have either:
    • Procurement or commodity-management experience within the chemical industry; or
    • A chemistry, chemical-engineering, or related technical background combined with significant procurement or strategic-sourcing experience.
  • Experience developing and executing category or commodity strategies.
  • Demonstrated success managing strategic suppliers and improving supplier performance.
