Description

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency providing land use planning; stewardship of natural, cultural and historic resources; and delivery of recreation programs to the communities it serves. The agency is seeking a Principal Parks Facilities Maintenance Worker for the Prince George’s County Trap & Skeet Center (PGTS) location.

Under general supervision, performs general and some skilled building/ park maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. Operates a variety of equipment (for example, riding mowers, tractors with attachments, bucket trucks). The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $42,135 to mid-point annually at the Principal Parks Facilities Maintenance Worker level with an excellent benefits package including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, employer’s retirement plan, and work-life programs.

Examples of Important Duties
  • Works with immediate supervisor to ensure that all aspects of maintenance, preparation, and cleanup are coordinated in advance of every event.
  • Performs general landscaping duties and routine building maintenance at the PGTS according to established standards.
  • Distribute clay targets for all discipline of clay target shooting.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repairs on grounds around the facility, using various types of specialized and technical equipment.
  • Uses various hand tools as they relate to ground maintenance.
  • Organizing, rotating and keeping all clay targets, ammunition fresh and accessible as needed.
  • Maintain and repair all solar panels and batteries needed for Sporting Clay machines.
  • Knowledgeable of safety and fire regulations and ensures all requirements are met on a regular basis.
  • Performs routine safety inspection and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, endorsing safe work practices.
  • Incumbents in this class are regularly given independent work assignments but may work as part of a group. Assignments are made in terms of specific instructions.
  • Provides general assistance to Trap & Skeet visitors in a courteous and effective manner. Advises park visitors of rules and regulations.
  • Respond to emergencies and inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes, blizzards, and earthquakes. Summons emergency assistance as appropriate.
  • Opens and closes Commission facilities.
  • Performs other and special related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.
  • Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
  • Pass Commission medical examination.
  • Depending upon the area of assignment, some positions in this class require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including:
  • Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Pesticide Applicator certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment;
  • Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Fertilizer Applicator certification; and
  • National Playground Safety Institute certification.
