Operations I Custodian

Custodian I employees are responsible for the routine safety, security, upkeep, general cleanliness, and maintenance of a healthful environment of buildings and grounds owned by the Cecil County Public Schools.

Essential duties and responsibilities of position:

• Selects appropriate equipment, supplies, and sweeps and cleans floors, walls and partitions in all areas of buildings including classrooms, offices, corridors, gymnasiums, mechanical rooms, locker rooms, and lavatories.
• Performs grounds work as assigned including grass cutting, snow removal, etc.
• Uses brooms, brushes, mops, power-operated scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, buffers, carpet sweepers, liquid floor finishers, dust absorbers, and other custodial equipment and supplies.
• Washes and cleans windows, light fixtures, ventilators, and other items which may require climbing in excess of eight feet.
• Cleans and polishes desks, chairs, tables, cabinets, and other office or classroom equipment.
• Collects and disposes of trash, scrap, and garbage.
• Maintains lavatories in clean and sanitary condition.
• Unloads supplies and delivers to proper storage areas.
• Performs routine safety and security duties.
• Performs preventive maintenance inspections and duties; changes HVAC filters.
• Is able to lift 50 pounds.
• Makes minor repairs to equipment as required.
• Assists organizations using school facilities.
• Arranges rooms for meetings and conferences.
• Has received training and understands the AHERA law, Right-to-Know and other regulations.
• Responds and assists as designated essential personnel during situations, including but not limited to inclement weather assignments and emergency repairs.
• Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
• Able to work day shift during summer hours.

Minimum requirements of the position:

• Has good interpersonal communication skills.
• Is eligible to meet AHERA training requirements within 30 days of hire.

Salary:

The current salary range for the Operations I Custodian position for the school year 2026-27 is $42,.00, depending upon creditable experience and training. Advanced preparation and longevity increments are in addition to the base salary. The salary schedule with these increments can be found here:
