DescriptionAltus Technology Solutions is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as the company’s senior operational leader. This role is responsible for leading day-to-day operations, strengthening execution across programs and corporate functions, and building the systems and discipline needed to support continued growth.
Altus is a growing federal contractor supporting Department of Defense customers across range operations, engineering services, and IT solutions. The COO will play a critical role in ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, customer satisfaction, and organizational scalability while preserving the company’s strong culture and mission focus.
This role is ideal for an operations-focused executive who enjoys building structure, improving performance, and leading teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Primary Responsibilities- Operational Leadership & Daily Command
- Own and lead day-to-day operations across all programs and corporate functions
- Ensure consistent, high-quality execution of contracts and internal operations
- Establish operational discipline, decision authority, and accountability frameworks
- Enable executive leadership to focus on strategy and growth by independently managing operational execution
- Financial Performance & P&L Management
- Drive operational financial performance including cost control and margin optimization
- Monitor contract-level financial health and proactively address risks or variances
- Partner with Finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Implement financial controls that balance agility with fiscal discipline
- Customer Satisfaction & Contract Performance
- Serve as the primary escalation point for operational and performance-related customer issues
- Maintain strong relationships with government customers and key stakeholders
- Monitor contract performance metrics including quality, schedule, and deliverables
- Support contract transitions, mobilization efforts, and recompete readiness
- Leadership Team Development & Organizational Management
- Lead, coach, and develop current and future operational leaders as the organization scales
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards
- Support workforce planning, recruiting strategy, and leadership development
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Process Excellence & Scalable Systems
- Build and refine scalable processes, policies, and operational standards
- Establish clear swim lanes, decision rights, and cross-functional workflows
- Implement dashboards, KPIs, and reporting rhythms to drive performance
- Lead operational efficiency initiatives and technology enablement efforts
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks across contracts and corporate functions
- Ensure compliance with FAR/DFARS, labor regulations, security requirements, and ISO standards
- Support audits, reviews, and internal controls
- Lead incident response and corrective action efforts when required
- Strategic Execution & Growth Enablement
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and execution
- Translate company objectives into actionable operational plans and milestones
- Support business development through operational insight and readiness assessments
- Ensure operational scalability to support new contract wins and company growth
- Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in federal contracting or professional services
- 5+ years in senior operational leadership roles (COO, VP Operations, General Manager, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated P&L responsibility supporting $25M+ operations
- Strong understanding of the federal contracting environment and government customers
- Proven ability to build processes, systems, and teams in growth-stage organizations
