Position: Correctional Housing Unit Manager lll - (Southern CI)
Location: Laurel

Position Title: Correctional Housing Unit Manager III (S)

Job Classification: Grade NC10

Description of Work

Reporting to the Associate Warden of Custody, this position manages the operations of an institutional housing unit within a close‑custody correctional institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine and evaluate program design necessary to meet the needs of the offender population.
  • Coordinate programs and services with staff.
  • Perform orientation with offenders covering administration, disciplinary segregation, education, mental health, operations, programs, and work assignments.
  • Provide final approval of authority on unit classification and disciplinary committees.
  • Work in accordance with departmental regulations and established procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Produce a negative drug screening result.
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Adverse Weather Reporting:
    Position designated as “Mandatory” and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervisory skills in a Prison Facility.
  • Knowledge of facility operations.
  • Knowledge of Prisons’ policy and procedures.
  • Documented report writing skills.
  • Documented supportive counseling skills.
Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $43,267 – $75,718. Full‑time position (40 hours per week) with state benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, NCFlex, supplemental benefits, paid vacation, sick, community service leave, and paid parental leave.
