The Manager Trainee is a full‑time, entry‑level position designed to prepare you for a leadership role within 84 Lumber. The role offers hands‑on training across all aspects of store operations with the goal of promotion to a management position. Within the first 6‑12 months, you can be promoted, potentially increasing annual pay by up to 40%. Many Manager Trainees progress to General Manager roles within 3‑4 years.
No experience is required; bring your dedication and willingness to learn.
Through a structured training plan—including classroom, online, and hands‑on learning—you will learn:
- Sales and customer service: support customers and drive sales in a retail store environment
- Store operations and inventory management: oversee material supply, stock, and merchandising
- Blueprint reading and estimation: create material estimates for building projects
- Forklift operation and certification: safe handling of materials and equipment
- Business management: payroll, invoicing, inventory, and financial analysis
- Microsoft Office Suite: enhance and refine skills through comprehensive training
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentWork both indoors and outdoors, assisting customers in all weather conditions. Requires frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 80 pounds. You may also work around machinery and airborne particles.
Responsibilities- Payroll, invoicing, inventory, and POS systems
- Microsoft Office Suite (previous experience preferred)
- Interpret and analyze common financial reports
- Read blueprints and create material lists
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers
- Education:
high school diploma or GED equivalent - Availability: full‑time schedule (48+ hours/week, overtime included)
