Operator-In-Training - Senior Lead Operator

Job Overview

Maryland Environmental Service is hiring an entry‑level Operator‑In‑Training (OIT) or an experienced Operator at our Freedom facility in Sykesville, MD. The OIT apprenticeship is a 3‑year program that includes on‑the‑job training, an independent study program, and professional in‑house mentoring and coaching.

• Work in varying weather conditions and may be required to work weekends, holidays, or emergency situations.
• Participate in periodic performance evaluations and training components of the apprenticeship.

Starting salary for an OIT is $39,748.80. Pay raises are awarded periodically during the apprenticeship based on benchmarks and performance. Upon successful completion, graduates are offered Operator positions.

Estimated Pay Range: $39,748.80 - $83,575.93

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Driver's license with less than 5 points.
• Mechanical inclination and basic math skills.

The position will be open until filled. Candidates who apply after an on‑spot, contingent offer has been extended (including internal candidates) will not be considered unless the candidate who receives the offer does not complete the process to become an MES employee. Offers are contingent upon successful completion of required pre‑employment screens: full background check, drug and alcohol screening, and position‑appropriate physical.
